Burne

Burne Vilkuna has been involved in intensive study of a number of new evocations at the limits of his ability. This study has brought him to deal with Praxagora, a medusa sorceress that resides in a remote cavernous abode deep in the Lortmil Mountains. Their intellectual discourse has been through a correspondence of scrolls delivered by a very young green dragon. The use of the dragon was the preference of Praxagora. Burne has never asked the dragon if the adult dragon Rufus and he slew a few years ago was the dragon’s parent, but the dragon seems moderately interested in Burne and Praxagora’s research. Oddly, the dragon likes to be called Cychreides.

Burne has mentioned to his wife Johanna that he hopes the discourse will help Praxagora focus on the pursuit of the arcane arts. Time will tell if this is sheer folly. The discourse is proving very enlightening, with the research going very well indeed for Burne, as he presumes likewise for Praxagora.

Burne’s wife Johanna Vilkuna was inspired to join the followers of Saint Cuthbert after a visionary study in illusion. (She is a dual-class illusionist 6th and cleric 7th.) Since Johanna was ordained as a lama, the high priests in the region have required her aid on a number of esoteric problems that take advantage of her unique approach.

When faith calls her away, Burne and Johanna send missives at least twice a week by courier. They are considering various reasonable magical alternatives to physical missives that bridges their different understanding of magic. Most recently, Johanna is in Narwell providing counsel pertaining to recent unusual discoveries in Welkwood predating the Suloise Empire.

Rufus

Rufus Harju has been highly involved with the process of washing out the less capable men in his troop. Most recently, he has sought to slay a tribe of kobolds the gnomes of the Kron Hills have pushed into local concern. While slight for Rufus, the creatures provide excellent assessment of the troop.

Personally, Rufus has been hunting along the sign of werewolves that are active among the local dire wolves. Seeking them in solitude as a true hunt, the werewolves are a threat Rufus has not risked his troop. Otherwise, Rufus would be left with the task of reciting reports to one of his staff of three scribes for Wilfrick Viscount of Verbobonc, which increasingly demands his time. Only Rufus’s stable master knows how often he is going on these very high risk solitary treks into lykos territory.

In an attempt to escape the incessant reports the Viscount requires, Rufus has been spending time in the village, and he has started getting farther along than he intended with a local girl, Esteri Lassila the daughter of the widower Bertil Lassila (building 12 on the T1 map).

Jaroo

Jaroo Ashstaff is well aware of the threat that is focused upon seemingly quiet Hommlet. While the Druid Circle at Gnarly Forest enjoys fellowship with the Viscount of Verbobonc, the Circle has found the Viscount distracted by the rising states on his borders, ignoring the much more malevolent forces that are not so easy discerned. Jaroo has found himself swamped with the utter enormity of the problems in the area.

He has recently set a large portion of time to assist dryads against a tribe of ogres in the deep groves South of Hommlet. While the dryads are capable, tactics are foreign to them, and the ogres remain an ongoing problem.

East of Hommlet in a secluded glade a trio of nymphs had been in dire need of assistance against a lamia that was ensconced in a subterranean lair. The entreaties from the nymphs reached frantic by the time he reached the meadow. With the nymphs’ help he was able to put the horrid creature to rest, but Jaroo is still searching the lands to the East for signs of how the creature arrived in the area.

Sylphs among the skirting lower hills of the Kron Hills have reported attacks by a manticore. Jaroo has yet to discover a way to track down the beast, since it flew down from some location in the hills. He has attempted to use birds of prey in the region for the search, but they are distracted by their new hatchlings. He has been making regular day tips to the region.

Along the Velverdyva to the North, nixies were under attack from koalinth. Thankfully, Jaroo was able to enlist the aid of a pit of water nagas. The two unlikely factions pushed the koalinth into retreat. The damper upon the victory was finding weapons with the tell-tale signs of Horned Society smiths among the slain koalinth. Jaroo has been employing every Northern resource he has available to find more information.

With these pressing issues, Jaroo has been assisting the local farms and ranches to produce more healthy crops and livestock. Rufus Harju has been sending men to gather reports on these agriculture improvement efforts, which Jaroo has reluctantly completed out of respect for the Circle’s fellowship with the Viscount of Verbobonc.

Jaroo’s main goal against hidden malevolent powers in the region has been put to one side for these pressing issues. Jaroo knows all to well that this may be a purposeful diversion by those forces. It is little surprise to Jaroo that his personal relationships have dwindled to zilch.

Edit: Johanna Vilkuna is a human dual-class 6th level illusionist and 7th level cleric of Saint Cuthbert. If human dual-class characters are rare in your campaign, they are described on page 33 of the Players Handbook.
